Richmond Light Railway visit - Saturday 13th June 2026

We are pleased to offer an ‘all available track’ visit to the Richmond Light Railway in Headcorn, Kent. This privately-owned, two-foot gauge steam railway, features a main loop, a branch line and a fine selection of historical steam and industrial locomotives. Whilst not a public railway, it does hold an annual charity steam fair, however this is a unique opportuntity to visit and have the place to ourselves to explore what is on offer. We will have unlimited train rides and a number of specials to run on areas of the line that are not usually accessible, plus there will be tea and coffee available all day.

The story of Richmond began in 2007 when Richmond Farm, previously used as a pig farm, was purchased. After renovation work to the house, plans were drawn up for a railway to show off the collection of locomotives and rolling stock acquired from across the world. After demolishing a couple of the outbuildings on site, the engine shed was built in December 2010, with the first items of rolling stock arriving in April 2011. By the end of 2012 the mainline had been completed, with the addition of the passing loop in 2013, the main Richmond Station area, ash pit and water tower finished in 2014 and the southern extension to New Barn Halt in 2015. It really has grown from strength to strength.

Please see the link to their Facebook page, which includes a number of videos and photos for you to view more details: https://www.facebook.com/RLRailway

We will provide a track map and stocklist, and there is a map on the Minor Railways website:
