On Friday 21st June, Class 08 08937 hauled the joint PLEG / BLS charter at the Dartmoor Railway, the railway being especially opened for our visit. 40 participants enjoyed their journey with the consist of a brake van, Mark 2 coach and DMU trailer. The mileage (each way) was estimated at 2 miles 13 chains by member Jim Sellens.
It goes without saying that thanks should be recorded for the staff and volunteers at the Dartmoor Railway for their very special assistance in making this event happen – as has been well publicised the railway faces challenging times and it was most pleasing to see how welcome our party was made.
Track wise, of particular note was traversal to the safe extremity of the line at Meldon viaduct before the return journey being via the first of the quarry roads next to the running line. Participants were also able to enjoy an escorted visit to the quarry to observe items of stored rolling stock and restoration activity underway. As usual thanks are recorded for the Society members and contributors who provided invaluable information to the participants to aid the enjoyment of their visit.
